This letter begins with the kind of greeting that we find in most New Testament letters. Having identified himself and addressed the readers in verse 1, Peter now offers a salutation that is significant for what he is about to say. In the Greek language of the New Testament, the word for grace sounds much like another word commonly used as a greeting.
